Relax and unwind in this gorgeous, light-filled architect's home, nestled on five private wooded acres near the Tisbury Great Pond. With free access to beautiful Long Point Beach, and close proximity to Lambert's Cove, bike paths, walking trails and horse farms, the house offers a serene and private retreat.
The first floor of the home has a large chef's eat in kitchen, fully equipped with a 6 burner Garland stove, appliances (waffle maker, panini press, blender, Cuisinart, coffeemaker, etc.) and table and cookware galore. A large outdoor gas grill off the kitchen makes cookouts a breeze, and you can enjoy your meals in the kitchen, on one of 2 outdoor dining tables, or at the formal dining room table which seats 8. Help yourself to herbs from the small garden just steps from the kitchen.
The double-height living/dining room has a fireplace for chilly nights, a grand piano, books, games and puzzles, and plenty of room for lounging. The air-conditioned sunroom next to the living room can be a 4th bedroom as needed. It has beautiful wraparound views of the lawn and flowering trees, a very comfortable Design Within Reach sofabed which sleeps 2, flat screen TV (with Roku) and DVD player, en suite bathroom, and plenty of closet and drawer space. The back deck is a perfect place to bask in the afternoon sun in the chaise lounge or Adirondack chairs, surrounded by mint and flowers. The outdoor shower off the back deck allows for post- beach showering.
Upstairs, a suspended walkway connects the three air conditioned bedrooms, all with views of the trees surrounding the house. The skylit primary bedroom is in the shape of an octagon, with wraparound views of treetops, queen bed, desk, and flat screen TV and DVD player. It has a small balcony, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee, and en suite bathroom. On the other side of the walkway, you'll find two additional bedrooms, each with 2 twin beds, a shared balcony, and lovely views. The bedrooms have large closets and chests of drawers, and bedding to convert 2 of the beds into a King bed is available. A shared bathroom has a bathtub/shower and separate toilet room.
The house is perfect for entertaining and relaxing. It has 2 TVs/DVD players with Roku and a sound system which allows you to play music off your device or listen to records. There is a freestanding hammock, a cozy seating area on the front covered porch and dining tables on both the front porch and the front deck. We provide beach chairs, beach umbrellas, boogie boards, a cooler, plenty of beach towels, and a rolling collapsable beach cart to easily carry everything from your car to the beach.
You are very close to miles of walking trails and bike paths, and we provide a beach pass for Long Point Wildlife Refuge, one of the most beautiful beaches on the Vineyard. Only a 15 minute drive from the house, Long Point has miles of pristine ocean beach with great surf, as well as a swimming beach on the Tisbury Great Pond where you can rent paddle boards and kids can play and swim.
When water levels are high enough, you can paddle a rented canoe or kayak on the pond just down the road from the house (we provide life jackets, and you can have boats delivered and picked up at the house), or walk or bike along a 1.5 mile woodland trail to Sipiessa, a small quiet beach also on the Pond. We are 3 miles from the small town of West Tisbury, which has a wonderful library with an excellent DVD collection and an amazing children's room. Explore the West Tisbury farmer's market on Saturdays, pick up homemade breakfast and lunch at 7a, or peruse Alley's General Store.
The sunroom/TV room and upstairs bedrooms have air-conditioning, and the numerous windows and sliding glass doors downstairs create excellent cross ventilation.
